2.burst vi.(burst，burst)爆裂；爆发(blow up，explode)；突然出现n.突然破裂(crack)；爆发
burst out crying/laughing/cheering 突然哭/笑/欢呼起来
burst into tears/laughter/cheers 突然哭/笑/欢呼起来
burst in/into 闯入，突然破门而入
eg. Reading The Emperor’s New Clothes，I had to let out a burst of laughter over his foolishness.　读了《皇帝的新装》，我不禁为他的愚蠢而捧腹大笑。
【点拨】　(1)burst in中的in是副词，后面不接宾语；
(2)burst into中的into是介词，后面应接宾语。
3.at an end结束；终结
•at the end of... 在……尽头，在……末端
by the end of 到……结束时，到……时候为止(常与完成时态连用)
in the end 最后；终于
•come to an end 结束
put an end to sth 结束；终结
•end up with 以……结束
end up doing sth 以做……结束
4.ruin vt.毁灭；破坏；使破产(bankrupt)
n.(常用复数)废墟；遗迹；[U]毁灭
•(lie/be) in ruins 严重受损；破败不堪
be reduced to ruins 沦为废墟
under the ruins 在废墟下面
the ruin of civilization 文明的毁灭
go to/fall into ruin 灭亡；荒废；衰落
•ruin one’s health/fame/future 毁坏某人的健康/声誉/前途
5.injure vt.损害；伤害(wound，hurt)；损坏(名誉)；伤害(感情、自尊等)(harm)
•be/get injured 受伤
•injured adj.受伤的；受委屈的
be seriously /slightly injured 受重/轻伤
the injured 伤者，伤员(作主语时谓语动词用复数形式)
•injury n.伤；伤口；伤害
a head/knee injury 头部/膝盖受伤
do sb an injury＝do an injury to sb 伤害某人
personal injury 人身伤害
6.shock vt. & vi.(使)震惊；震动
n.休克；打击；震惊
•shocking adj.令人震惊的
•shocked adj.震惊的；愤慨的
be shocked to do sth 做某事很震惊
be shocked at... 对……感到震惊
be shocked that... 对……感到震惊
7.rescue n. & vt.援救；营救
rescue...from... 把……从……救出来
come/go to sb’s rescue ＝ rescue sb 营救某人
eg. During the disaster, the rescue team came to many people’s rescue，and the doctors never gave up any hope of rescuing them from danger.
