eg. Parents usually have such high expectations that their children find it hard to live up to them.　父母通常有如此高的期望值，以至于孩子觉得要想达到父母的期望是很难的。
2.means n.手段；方法(way，approach)
•by this means 通过这种方法
by means of 用……办法；借助……
by all means 一定，务必；好的，当然可以
by no means(＝not at all) 决不，一点也不(位于句首时，句子用部分倒装)
by any means 无论如何；总之
by this means 通过这种方式
•a means of communication 一种通讯/交流工具
eg. (全国卷Ⅰ书面表达)And you’d better practice using chopsticks in advance，which is also a means of showing your good table manners.(建议信)
你最好事先练****用筷子，这也是展示你良好的餐桌礼仪的一种方式。
【点拨】　means是单复数同形的名词；作主语且有every, each等表示单数意义的词对其进行修饰时，谓语动词用单数；作主语且有all, several, many, few等表示复数意义的词对其进行修饰时，谓语动词用复数。
3.majority n.大多数；大半
•a/the majority of 大多数……
be in a/the majority 占多数
•major n. & v.专业；主修
major in 主修……；以……为专业
•minority n.少数
be in a/the minority 占少数
eg. (广东卷书面表达) I tend to give up my own idea and come to terms with the opinion which is supported by the majority.　我倾向于放弃自己的想法，接受大多数人支持的观点。
【点拨】　a/the majority of＋名词，表示“大多数”，谓语动词的数与of后面的名词相一致；the majority单独作主语时，谓语动词用单复数均可。
4.make a life****惯于新的生活方式、工作等；创造生活
•make a living/earn one’s living 谋生
•live/lead a...life 过着……生活
come(back) to life 苏醒；变得活跃；恢复生气
bring...back to life 使……苏醒过来；给……活力
5.elect vt.选举某人；选择(choose，select)；决定做某事
•elect sb (as/to be)＋职位
＝be elected (as/to be)＋职位　选举某人为…… (职位前无冠词)
•election n.选举
eg. (陕西卷书面表达) I have a good command of English，so I am elected as assistant of my English teacher.(申请信)
我有丰富的英语知识，因此被选为英语课代表。
6.keep up坚持；维持；保持；沿袭(风俗、传统等)
eg. There is no doubt that the Internet makes communication easier and helps us keep up with the latest information.(发言稿)
毫无疑问，因特网使交流更简单了，也有助于我们跟上最新的信息步伐。
7.occur vi.发生；出现
sth occurs to/strikes/hits sb 某人突然想起某事
It occurs to/strikes/hits sb that...某人突然想起……
It occurs to/strikes/hits sb to do sth 某人突然想起做某事
