【知识梳理1】In the middle of the ancient city of Beijing is the Palace Museum, also called the Forbidden City. (P8)在北京古城的中部是故宫博物院，也叫紫禁城。
1.middle，名词，意为“中间，中央”。in the middle of意为“在……中间”，既可用于空间，也可用于时间或活动等。例：

[辨析]middle，centre
middle：指长形物的中央、道路两侧的中间 或某期间，表示的位置没有centre 精确，只与介词in连用。
centre：指圆、球或城市的中心，只用于空间，可与介词in或at连用。
Our offices are in the city centre.
我们的办公室位于市中心。

(2)后置定语：过去分词短语作定语时，通常放在被修饰的名词之后，它的作用相当于一个定语从句。
