故事中的高潮(climax)也通常是故事的转折点(turning point)，是指故事达到最紧张或扣人心弦的那一部分。高潮有时候是剧情中的“危机”点。有时它只是达到关键时刻或者转折点时，发生了一些事情，或者人物必须做出决定，从而导致一个结果或其他。营造故事发展的高潮可以通过营造冲突实现。冲突带来紧迫感，因此营造冲突是一种有效地将故事推向情节发展的高潮的方式。
